Remembering Our Rabbi: Isaiah Zeldin (1920-2018)
Introduction by Rabbi Yoshi Zweiback

Yesterday we eulogized our founder, Rabbi Isaiah Zeldin, and accompanied him to his final resting place. We will update you about future opportunities we will have as a community to gather to remember and celebrate Rabbi Zeldin.

Rabbi Zeldin’s lifelong advocacy for Jewish education was central to his Rabbinate. This is a piece that he wrote in the early days of the congregation which was later published in Once Upon a Mountaintop: The Story of Stephen S. Wise Temple.

“Education Is for Everyone”
by Rabbi Isaiah Zeldin

Our congregation was organized under the basic philosophy that Judaism is a way of living for every member of the family. Primary in that way of living is that everyone ought to be a student, constantly gaining new insights into his own own background, and constantly striving for new guidelines for the future.
Dear member,

Judaism is a growing and evolving religious civilization and the best way you can be part of it is to participate in at least one Jewish learning experience. Let it not be said of you, “In the battle of Jewish knowledge, you are a pacifist.”

If you’d like to put Rabbi Zeldin’s words into action immediately, please join Rabbi Yoshi Zweiback for Talmud Study this Wednesday, January 31 at 12 p.m.. All are welcome. The class meets in the main Sanctuary building.
