What social groups do you have for singles?
We have two groups. The
Social Circle
offers programming for singles ages 45-60ish and The Wise Singles offers programming for singles ages 60 and over.
Where can I find out what events are coming up?
The Whole Megillah is our monthly newsletter. It lists all the events for the month for both The Social Circle and The Wise Singles. You will also find the RSVP/new membership tear-off enclosed. The Whole Megillah will give the cut-off dates for registering for events, the cost of the events, etc. Events are also listed on our website at www.wisela.org/singles
How often do you have events? What type of events do you have? How much do the events cost?
We average at least two events per month for each group. The Social Circle hosts events such as: dances, cocktail parties, lectures, museum and winery tours, leisurely walks with brunch or lunch, Shabbat dinners, Hollywood Bowl concerts - just to name a few! The Wise Singles hosts such events as: day trip to Pechanga for gambling, Jewish Historical Society tour, Long Beach Aquarium, dances, Hollywood Bowl concerts, theater nights, brunch and lecture in a private home and many more events! Your suggestions and ideas are always welcome! The costs of events for Members range anywhere from complimentary (hike or walk) to minimal (lecture, museum) to $25 or $30 (Shabbat dinner, concerts, theater). Guest (non-member) prices would be slightly higher.
How much does it cost to become a member? What benefits do I receive by becoming a member?
Membership fees for The Social Circle are $30 (valid from July 1 through June 30). Membership fees for The Wise Singles are $30 (valid from January 1 through December 31). If you sign up for membership after the six-month mark (January 1 for The Social Circle or July 1 for The Wise Singles), membership fees are $20 until the new membership period.
By becoming a member, you will receive our monthly newsletter, The Whole Megillah, which will be mailed directly to your home. Receiving The Whole Megillah gives members advance notice of all upcoming events. Also, members receive discounts on all events - savings of up to $10 in some cases! Additionally, all new members and those renewing their membership will be invited to a complimentary new member party hosted by the group to which they have joined. While being a member of Stephen S. Wise Temple is NOT a requirement for membership to The Social Circle or The Wise Singles, should you be a member in good standing, your membership to The Social Circle or The Wise Singles is complimentary.

What do I wear?
If an event calls for a specific type of attire, it will be listed in The Whole Megillah and on our 24-hr hotline. An example of Shabbat attire for men is dress slacks, a button-down, collared shirt, and a jacket. Ties are optional. For women, Shabbat attire can be a dress, a pantsuit, skirt and blouse or dress slacks and blouse. Dress shoes would be appropriate for either men or women, but jeans, tennis shoes, Birkenstocks, etc. would not. Remember, you only get one chance to make a first impression! Casual attire for day trips, etc. would be jeans, pants, shorts and a t-shirt. Tennis shoes, Birkenstocks, sandals, etc. would most likely be considered appropriate for most day trips or activities.
