Project Manager
Loolwa Khazzoom 310.889.2389
Loolwa Khazzoom pioneered the Jewish Multiculturalism movement in 1990, through ground-breaking work across North America and Israel. Her unique, heart-centered approach radically transformed thinking about diversity and Jewish identity - inspiring the proliferation of community programs, educational materials, and media articles on Jewish Multiculturalism. In 2006, Loolwa launched Tapestry, a Jewish multicultural consulting company, through which she worked with Stephen S. Wise leadership on launching the Community Integration Project (CIP). In Fall 2008, she relocated to Los Angeles, to work as the CIP Project Manager.
As part of her work over the past two decades, Loolwa facilitated Jewish multicultural programs at institutions including Harvard University on the East Coast and the Simon Wiesenthal Center on the West Coast; she wrote Jewish multicultural articles for periodicals including The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, and Marie Claire; she published the first anthology by and about Jewish women of color; she was featured in documentaries including The Forgotten Refugees and Young, Jewish, and Left; she founded or co-founded non-profit organizations dedicated to Jewish multiculturalism, including Jews Indigenous to the Middle East and North Africa (JIMENA) and the Jewish MultiCultural Project; and she developed and implemented the first comprehensive curriculum about Jews around the world.
Loolwa brings compassion, artistic talent, and humor to her work, as well as the insight that comes from growing up with multiculturalism in her blood: A 1st generation Iraqi-American on one side and 18th generation European-American on another, she was raised in a multi-ethnic (Iraqi, Danish, Irish, Scottish, Welsh), inter-faith (Jewish, Catholic, Quaker, Protestant), mixed-class family with various physical abilities, seuxal orientations, mother tongues, and political views. Exposed to this wealth of diversity early on in life, Loolwa understood the complexities of identity and, over time, learned to navigate with ease between seemingly contradictory worlds. For the past two decades, she has dedicated her life to sharing this skill with others - helping them see their own stories reflected in the human experience across the globe.
