Wise Students Volunteer at SOVA
On Sunday, March 7, 10 ES and ECC students, alongside their parents, volunteered at the Valley SOVA Food Pantry. SOVA Volunteer Staff taught us about the operations at the Pantry which serves 10,000 people monthly. It was a very meaningful connection for parents and children alike, to see what happens to the SOVA donations which we bring weekly to School. We unloaded market carts and sorted the food into categories such as pasta, soup, peanut butter, snacks, and cereal-just to name of few. It was so much fun and our kids were on a roll! They sorted the goods faster than the adults could handle! We also visited the packing room where volunteers pack grocery bags with orders for those who wait to receive the food in the waiting room. Parents were very impressed with SOVA's "Baskets of Hope" program which provides the community with a socially responsible alternative to flower centerpieces for their events and simchas. Our visit to SOVA was a very enlightening experience for all! SOVA always welcomes help but reservations are required ahead of time.

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL, MARINA KHEEL |
|
While the students were off campus for part of this week, our school was busy with Parent-Teacher Conferences. Each teacher puts so much careful thought and preparation into gathering student work, writing strengths and goals, and clearly communicating the academic, social, spiritual and emotional needs of each child. I am certain each parent left with a strong sense of their child’s achievement and performance, and the unique talents they bring to our school. The conferences are an opportunity to understand each piece of our curriculum, including Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, Hebrew, Judaic Studies, Science, Art, Music, P.E., Library, Technology and many other special programs we offer our students. It is wonderful to see the attention and care teachers put into these conferences, and the connection built between teachers and parents to help students be successful throughout the year. The spirit of collaboration and warmth permeated these meetings, and I hope each parent left the classroom eager to share their child’s successes. It is clear that each child at this school is taught, well-known and cared for by a group of talented professionals. The warmth, caring and professionalism of our teaching staff are a hallmark of our school, and our community is a rich and vibrant place because of the partnership between school and home. Thank you for your time in attending these conferences, and for entrusting your wonderful children to us each day.
