Veterans Speak Out

Over the past several years, the generosity of the Wise community has helped hundreds of veterans feel at home in new, permanent housing after living on the streets. Through our work with Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH), we are able to assist vets with new furniture, appliances, and amenities that truly make them feel at home.

In our new video, veterans speak about their experiences with Homes for Heroes, VASH, and what we can all do to continue to help.

Help our formerly-homeless veterans settle in to new, permanent homes.

The Problem:
Los Angeles County is home to nearly 5,000 homeless veterans. Those that do obtain housing receive only four walls and a door: they then require furniture, appliances, and basic everyday necessities to make them feel welcome and to be able to lead normal lives.

How Stephen Wise Temple is helping:
We ask that members of our community help by making contributions to help our volunteers purchase furniture and items for our veterans. These include beds and bedding, appliances (including microwave ovens and refrigerators), and basic furniture.

How you can help:You can drop off donation items (housewares, kitchenware, hygiene items) year-round at Wise or make a financial contribution here, 100% of which will go towards purchasing items that our veterans need in their new, permanent homes. To make a contribution by check, make the check payable to “Stephen Wise Temple” and write “Homes for Heroes” in the memo line. Send to the attention of Rabbi Ron Stern at Stephen Wise Temple, 15500 Stephen S. Wise Drive, Los Angeles CA 90077.
