At Stephen Wise Temple, we believe there is no substitution for shared Jewish family experiences. Our ultimate goal in the creation of our programs is to provide our families with the knowledge, tools, and skills enabling them to continue their Jewish learning and deepen their Jewish experiences at home. All of our family programs have been created in an attempt to attain this end. A secondary goal of our programming is to utilize this time to help build a stronger community by providing the social structure for our families to come together. We have a family educator on staff who is dedicated to this task ensuring our programs remain relevant and meaningful to the dynamic world of our students and families.
At least once a year our students will have the have the opportunity to share a grade-level educational experience with their parents. The family programs offered by the Religious School are not only enriching and exciting, but also give the parents a snap shot of the learning their child engages in throughout the year.
Family Education is designed to:
- Stimulate the adult and student learner
- Cultivate relationships between the parents, faculty, and Temple clergy
- Foster community and bring families closer together
- Help students understand that their learning is meaningful and important to their parents
- Offer parents the rare and special opportunity to observe their children learning
- Inspire family discussions
The Stephen S. Wise Temple community offers many opportunities for our families to engage in shared experiences, one being Family Shabbat. Family Shabbat services are held on the first Friday of every month. They are easy to follow, very lively and spiritually uplifting, and always have a powerful message or story to share. All Friday evening services begin with a very warm kabbalat Shabbat, welcoming-the-Sabbath experience beginning at 5:30 p.m. You will be greeted by a beautiful, smiling team of temple ambassadors inviting you to share in a delicious pre-Shabbat-dinner nosh and all family members are welcome. It is a wonderful way to begin your weekend and celebrate Shabbat as part of a community.
