Step 1: Read the 2010-2011 NCAA Guide To College Recruitment
Step 2: Visit The Sport Source - This is a highly recommended website for students who aim to play collegiate sports. Very useful materials are available for purchase. This site deals with the myths and realities of NCAA college recruitment and what steps should be taken to support this process in Grades 9-12.
Step 3: Work with your college counselors and coaches - Make a list of the schools you wish to attend and have a realistic chance of being considered for athletic recruitment. The coaching staff will make calls and emails on your behalf to schools that you and your coaches believe suits your level of ability.
Step 4: Communicate, communicate, communicate - Athletic recruitment requires a great deal of proactive work to be done by the student athlete. The student must write letters, send e-mails, create and send athletic highlight DVD or VHS tapes to all of the schools on their list. Persistence and following up is needed. Communication is the key to success in this process. Schools and college coaches want athletes who show strong interest in their programs and meet their athletic standard. The Milken Athletic Department has templates to help you with this process. To contact Jason Kelly, Head of Athletics for more information abouthow to get started on the process, click here.
